Westhoughton

Like Horwich, Westhoughton is a small town-like settlement that lies in the metropolitan borough of Bolton towards the western direction of Wigan. Westhoughton incorporates several former villages and hamlets which have their own distinctive character and amenities, including Wingates, White Horse, Over Hulton, Four Gates, Chequerbent, Hunger Hill, Daisy Hill, and more.

Westhoughton’s town centre is filled mostly with independent shops, cafes and pubs, with larger retail brands occupying pockets around the area, providing local residents with everything they need. The grandest building in Westhoughton is the town hall which was built in 1903, and down the road is one of the famous Andrew Carnegie’s libraries (Carnegie was one of the world’s leading industrialists with roots in Scotland). Westhoughton is a relatively small, quiet place with a community feel, offering a range of housing and schooling for parents and their children.
