South Turton
The area of South Turton lies north east of central Bolton on the southern edge of the West Pennine Moors and includes the suburbs of Eagley, Dunscar, Egerton, Bromley Cross, Bradshaw, and Harwood.
Eagley Brook runs through the suburb of Eagley and runs by Eagley Mills. Once a complex of cotton mills, Eagley Mills was converted to a block of contemporary 1, 2, and 3 bed apartments which overlook the river and are situated near a small, green valley popular to local dog walkers.
Adjacent to Eagley is Dunscar, which is renowned for its war memorial that commemorates local residents who were killed in the First and Second World Wars. The war memorial sits at a junction separating three roads; to the north is Blackburn with Darwen, to the south is central Bolton, and the road to the south east leads through Bromley Cross further into the area of South Turton
To the north west of Dunscar war memorial is the small village-like suburb of Egerton. Several parts of Egerton are protected conservation areas, and the suburb is mostly residential with a lovely selection of pubs, independent cafes and bistros.
Bromley Cross is in the centre of the South Turton suburbs and is also home to Claves House. In the northern area of Bromley Cross is the “Last Drop Village” - a collection of old farmhouses and farm buildings which were restored and converted in the 1960s to create a pub, restaurant, bistro, craft shops, hotel, and conference centre. The area of South Turton is also home to Bromley Cross Railway Station which is on the Ribble Valley Line, providing quick access into Bolton town centre and neighbouring Manchester. In a 2011 survey it was noted that the area of Bromley Cross was rated the fifth best place in the UK to raise a family, considering the rates of crime, schooling, amenities, and good quality, affordable homes.
Bradshaw is a small residential area within South Turton. It is positioned between Bromley Cross and Harwood. On Friday and Saturday evenings you will find The Crofter’s bar bustling with locals.
Bordering Bury in the north-eastern part of Bolton is Harwood – a hilly suburb with an array of amenities including an array of pubs and a large supermarket. Lying on the eastern border of Harwood is Longsight Park which has a children’s play area, a football pitch, and walking paths.
